Nike Golf Unveils Vapor Iron Franchise: The Iron Reimagined

Nike Golf has reimagined golf irons with the introduction of its new Vapor franchise –Vapor Pro, Vapor Pro Combo, and Vapor Speed. The modern family of irons was unveiled to a global media audience today near New York City during an event featuring Nike athletes Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and celebrity golf aficionado Jimmy Fallon.Vapor_Oven1_large

The Vapor irons blend the detailed craftsmanship of Nike’s master club builder, Mike Taylor; the engineering expertise of The Oven; and the imagination of Nike designers. The result: a family of irons featuring a pinnacle Nike innovation called Modern Muscle.

Modern Muscle is a modification of a standard muscle-back design that moves the iron’s center of gravity to the center of the clubface, crafted to yield more efficient and pure strikes. The innovation has already contributed to a major championship victory when Rory McIlroy put a prototype Vapor Pro Combo 2-iron (MM Proto) in the bag and went on to win the 2014 Open Championship.

While Rory was the first to win with Modern Muscle in the bag, the innovation itself started with insights from Tiger Woods.

“Our engineers and designers at The Oven have been working with Tiger for quite some time to evolve this innovation and bring it to the golf athlete,” said Rob Arluna, Nike Golf’s Global Golf Club Business Director.

“We started with the traditional blade and asked what could be done to enhance its performance and modernize the design while maintaining a traditional, pure look at address. Thanks to Tiger’s inspiration, coupled with Rory’s added insights, we made the Vapor Pro blades feel and perform better with a technology advantage over the traditional blade. We then extended that innovation and design to Vapor Pro Combo and Vapor Speed.”

“Years back when we tested the parts with adjusted weighting, I immediately noticed a more balanced feel and more consistent performance,” said Woods. “Working with the club team to bring this concept to life was a great experience.”Vapor Pro

“We were inspired by the fact that traditional blades all look the same and challenged ourselves to rally around a big idea taken from Tiger’s insights,” said Nike Golf Design Director, Andrew Oldknow. “Our goal was to create a visual look on the exterior of the club that defines what’s happening on the inside. Shifting weight away from the heel of the club for a more precise center of gravity is what defines Modern Muscle, and that is distinctly visible across the three iron designs.

With a modernized take on the classic blade profile, the Vapor Pro is Nike Golf’s most precise iron to date. The Vapor Pro Combo has the clean lines and workability of a blade with the power of a distance iron – resulting in the ultimate blend of precision and power. The Vapor Speed delivers pure power for the golf athlete who wants maximum distance and forgiveness through the set.

Within Nike, the name Nike Vapor is synonymous with the company’s most premium innovations that boldly elevate athlete performance. The Nike Vapor name is featured in other categories within Nike, including baseball and global football.

The Vapor irons will be available on nike.com and at select retailers Oct. 31.

Product Review: 2014 Nike Tiger Woods Mesh Golf Shoes

Have you been dying of heat exhaustion this summer when trying to play golf in 100 degree weather? Does your feet feel like they are locked in a sauna and you can’t wait to escape them by the 18th hole? Nike has come to your rescue with the 2014 Tiger Woods Mesh golf shoes to help you get through even the hottest rounds on the course so now you can talk about the hot streak of birdies you went on instead of the coals you were walking on.

PRODUCT REVIEW:

tiger woods mesh

Look 10/10

What if I told you that you could have the look of the 2014 Tiger Woods golf shoe but something that is designed for the ridiculously hot weather such as here in the Sacramento area. Nike delivered a TW mesh shoe that gives you the benefits of the original but lighter materials to give you more breath ability on those hot summer rounds. The Nike free design comes in a white or grey colorway with volt and red colors to make them pop.

Out of my golf shoe collection I have continued to choose these shoes when playing this summer. Not only because they look awesome but because the mesh design is a lifesaver when dealing with a round in a 105 degree weather. I give the overall look of the TW Mesh golf shoes a 10/10 not only because they look good but because Nike made a great product for summer golf.

Comfort 10/10

The golf shoe created for the athlete does exactly what it was meant to do by delivering a super comfortable shoe that can handle walking the longest of courses even in extremely hot conditions. The TW Mesh is my golf to shoe this summer because you can barely feel them on your feet since they are featherlight. Nike took the Nike Free technology in their training shoes and put them into a shoe that could help you play golf from morning until night. So if you are looking for one of the most comfortable golf shoes on the market than make sure to stop by your local golf shop and give them a try. I give the overall comfort a 10/10 rating.

Grip 8/10tiger woods mesh sole

The new TW14 Mesh shoes take the same type of grip technology as the Nike FI Impact golf shoes with the low profile traction control that will provide you enough grip to prevent slippage on the course. Having grip is very important to the golf swing to give you a solid foundation to help you deliver powerful drives that will help you smash your competition on the links. The only drawback of these shoes is that they don’t come with the feature of golf spikes that help give maximum grip on the course. For the future I hope they make these shoes with the same sole as the regular TW golf shoe. Overall I give the grip a 8/10 rating.

Overall Rating 28/30

Nike and Tiger Woods golf shoes have been a match made in heaven for years. Every single pair I own of TW shoes I have ever owned have always been the most comfortable, best looking, groundbreaking golf shoes on the market every year. I believe the TW line especially in the golf shoes delivers a product that you feel like your money was spent wisely because every round you log in these shoes you know you had maximum comfort all 18 holes while your buddy still complains his feet kill after every round when buying other brands. So if you have been looking for a great summer golf shoe than look no further because the Tiger Woods Mesh Golf shoe has come to the rescue. CLICK HERE TO BUY NOW

Product Information:

Designed for Tiger Woods, the Nike TW ’14 Mesh Men’s Golf Shoe helps you unleash the full power of your swing with a Nike-Free inspired outsole that offers incredible flexibility from the ground up. It updates the previous version with an ultra-breathable upper, while Dynamic Flywire remains for adaptable support on the course.

Flexibility

The Nike Free-inspired outsole offers increased flexibility and full athletic motion. It’s designed to mimic and conform to the natural motion of the foot, allowing you to keep contact with the ground longer, supplying more power through your golf swing.

Ventilation

A combination of mesh and TPU offers enhanced breath ability while reducing the overall weight of the shoe for total comfort in hot conditions.

Glove-like Fit

Nike Dynamic Flywire technology cradles the foot for an adaptive, glove-like fit. Flywire consists of ultra-light yet sturdy cables that hug and move with the foot during your swing, stabilizing it while allowing for full mobility.

More Power Control

The forefoot design helps provide optimal traction and power control. The Nike Power Transfer Zone in the midsole offers better balance, smoother weight transfer and more power through impact.

Nike TW ’14 Origins

Tiger Woods prefers training in shoes that feature Nike Free technology. “I love training in it, running in it, lifting in it,” he said. “So I asked, why can’t I play golf in it?” With that, Nike designers set to work creating a Nike Free-inspired golf shoe tailored to maximize Woods’ game-and now yours. This innovative golf shoe allows athletes to keep contact with the ground longer, better harnessing the energy of the foot to the shoe and, therefore, the shoe to the ground.

Nike Free Origins

After learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university’s golf course, three of Nike’s most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, similar to bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion.

The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot’s natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.

More Benefits

  • Waterproof microfiber synthetic leather upper for durability and a great fit
  • Integrated Traction for low-profile stability, maximum ground feel and comfort

Nike 2014 US Open

Nike Golf Unveils Athlete Looks for the 2014 U.S. Open

Nike 2014 US Open

– Elite Cooling styles will help Nike Golf athletes beat the hot, humid days at Pinehurst –

BEAVERTON, Ore. (June 4, 2014) – Muggy humidity and the North Carolina heat are no match for the cool and comfortable styles Nike Golf athletes will be sporting at this year’s U.S. Open.

Under the theme of Engineered for Greatness, Nike Golf athletes will tee off in Elite Cooling apparel designed beat the heat, featuring lightweight, cool-to-touch fabrics; strategically placed mesh panels; and woven constructions for superior ventilation and breathability, perfect for the traditionally hot June temperatures at Pinehurst.

Nike Golf’s Elite Cooling styles for the U.S. Open include the Innovation Dri-FIT Knit Cool polo, with a premium jacquard knit fabric that offers ventilation and breathability where athletes need it most, and the Innovation Embossed polo featuring a full 100-percent Dri-FIT mesh back to allow moisture and body heat escape.

“We’re lucky as Nike athletes because we get to wear the best apparel for the best performance, which is especially important in those hot and humid conditions,” says Nike Golf Athlete Francesco Molinari. “I like that all the fabrics are really stretchy, and really comfortable. So no matter how hot it is or how much I sweat, it really doesn’t matter — it doesn’t affect me when I’m playing. I can still swing without any problems, and that’s the main thing you want when you play golf in that sort of weather. “

“It’s really important that the clothes fit properly,” adds Nike Golf Athlete Charl Schwartzel. “It makes a big difference. If they are too big or too small, they can start to get very sticky on your body. The Nike apparel I wear is the best clothing out there. The shirts and pants breathe really well, and they don’t stick to you. All the Nike athletes are really fortunate to be wearing these clothes.”

Ten Nike Golf athletes will compete at the 2014 U.S. Open: Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, Oliver Fisher, Cody Gribble, Russell Henley, Francesco Molinari, Seung Yul Noh, Charl Schwartzel, Kevin Tway and Nike Watney.

Product Review: Nike Covert Tour 2.0 Hybrid

Who’s looking for a hybrid that gives you the ability to not only smash long and high shots but with full loft adjustability? Guess what you are in luck because you have stumbled upon the club that is in my bag. Also known as the Nike Cover Tour 2.0 hybrid which I am gaming in a 3H.

There comes a time in life when you need to check your ego at the door which I believe in golf is the hybrids. After having a 3 iron in my bag forever the past 2 years have gone the way of a 3 hybrid because to tell you the truth, Nike makes it just way too easy to hit and in golf easy is a good thing. So jump on the bandwagon and be prepared to put the Nike Covert Hybrid in your bag too.

Product Review:

Look 10/10:

Just like the driver Nike has hit the reload button on the Covert line with huge improvements. One especially surprising with the 2.0 line that I think could be overlooked is their new line of hybrids with the loft adjustability we love with Nike. They took the same great red crown with black and white colorways just like the 2014 Covert Tour 2.0 driver. Another great touch is the red Golf Pride Tour wrap grip on the White Kuro Kage graphite shaft. I wish Nike would have gone with the Tour Velvet but still a great look. I give the overall look of the Nike Covert Tour 2.0 hybrid a 10/10.

Feel 7/10:

Feel of this club is solid with a muted sound that can throw me off sometimes but just takes getting use to with range time and playing on the course. Once I figured out this club of what shots feel good makes me feel better about this club. Also the Kuro Kage shaft feels better in the hybrid than driver. So if you are a fan of a more solid sounding club compared to a loud tingy sound than give the Nike Covert 2.0 Tour hybrid a shot because you will be a happy camper at the end of your next round. I give the overall feel a 7/10.nike 2.0 covert hybrid

Distance 10/10:

I believe Nike should rename this club the Covert “Bomber” hybrid because this thing has one job and it is to smash golfballs with ease. The NexCor face is hotter than ever with a redesign and can be seen compared to last year’s model. Nike gives you the ability to leave your 3 iron in the garage and collect dust because you now have a weapon that will go further and higher than your long irons. My favorite part is changing the loft down to 17 degrees before playing a few course where I know I will need a little extra distance but normally leave it at 18 for gapping purposes between my 3 wood and 4 iron.

If you want one of the longest hybrids in the game look no further because Nike has delivered a hybrid that will defy the laws of physics giving it a 10/10 overall for distance.

Workability/Adjustability 10/10:

Raise your hand if you want a hybrid that has full  adjustiblity and workability. I see a lot of hands up because I know you are excited to hear about the Nike Covert Hybrid 2.0. My favorite feature of this club is that Nike have harnessed the power of their FlexLoft technology into their hybrids. “The FlexLoft adjustability system allows you to customize your loft and face angle positions independently of each other to optimize launch and spin conditions for maximum distance and accuracy. This simple pull, turn, push-and-tighten system offers more range and versatility in the bag to meet the demands of your game.”

Now that Nike has covered everything you need to handle with adjustiblity its time to move onto workability. I have no problem working ball flight and direction with this club. The technology in this club gives me confidence that I can attempt any shot on the course without fear of being able to move the ball left or right, out of deep rough or tight lies and even out of fairway bunkers. This club checks all the boxes and I give the overall workability/adjustability rating an 10/10.

Overall Rating 37/40:

Nike has made some great improvements to the Covert 2.0 line of drivers, woods and hybrids this year. If you already have the new Covert Tour driver in your bag don’t forget to checkout the under rated weapon of the Covert family. So if you are struggling to hit your long irons and want to finally check your ego at the course I promise adding this club into your bag will payoff 10 fold on the course and you can thank me later.

TW 14 Mesh Shoe

Free Your Swing With Nike Golf’s New TW’ 14 Mesh Shoe

– Nike Free-inspired design, breathable mesh upper combine in the ultimate summer shoe –TW 14 Mesh Shoe

BEAVERTON, Ore. (April 3, 2014) – Nike Golf’s latest footwear design is breathable, flexible and perfect for summer – and it’s also the newest member of the TW’ 14 family. Available now at retail, the TW’ 14 Mesh merges innovative technologies from the original TW’ 14, like the Nike Free-inspired outsole, with custom options previously only available on NIKEiD – until now.

Nike Golf designers paired the Nike Free-inspired design and Dynamic Flywire technology featured in the TW’ 14 with a ventilated mesh upper and lower-profile Integrated Traction on the outsole. The result: A breathable, lightweight golf shoe that allows for freedom of movement and maximum ground feel for a more powerful, natural motion.

“The mesh upper and Integrated Traction options have been incredibly successful with the TW’ 14 on NIKEiD,” says Lee Walker, Nike Golf Footwear Product Director. “Consumers have told us they love it. So we created a version of the TW’ 14 with those features that people can try on in stores and purchase on the spot.”

The Nike Free-inspired outsole allows for more flexibility and full athletic motion, while Dynamic Flywire technology cradles the foot for an adaptive, glove-like fit. Low-profile Integrated Traction makes the TW’ 14 Mesh a versatile option for both on and off the course.

The TW’ 14 Mesh is available in White/Black-Volt-Wolf Grey and Base Grey/Black-Lagoon Red-Dark Base Grey.

Product Review: Nike VR S Covert 2.0 Tour Driver

What’s that sound? I think it could be the sound of a rocket taking off or an F-22 Raptor going in for a kill? Actually it’s the Nike VR S Covert Tour 2.0 driver blasting missiles all over the course. Nike has taken the Covert driver and elevated it with modifications to their past model.

The Nike Covert Tour model was redesigned to deliver even more speed to give any player who played last year’s model even more blinding distance. So get strapped in and prepare for lift off because Nike is bringing the G-Forces.

Product Review:

Look 10/10:

It’s 2014 and that means there is a new Nike Covert on the market. A much improved Nike Covert. Nike still has the cavity back driver in the lineup and have already been seen on the tour by the top team Nike golfers like Rory and Tiger. The new scheme features a white colorway on the Tour 2.0 that I am huge fan of for visual appeal. I think Nike really nailed the look on the newest 2.0 drivers. They also kept the white swoosh on the red crown, which is a huge plus to see that it stayed with 2.0 model. The look of the Covert Tour 2.0 is nothing less than bad ass. Another great touch is the red Golf Pride Tour wrap grip on the White Kuro Kage graphite shaft. I wish Nike would have gone with the Tour Velvet but still a great look. I give the overall look of the Nike Covert Tour 2.0 a 10/10.

Feel 6/10:

Feel again is my biggest issue with the Nike Covert Tour 2.0. I really think it could be the shaft choice of using the Kuro Kage. I really wish the stock option for this driver was the Fubuki line instead of the Kuro Kage. They had it in the old Nike VR S, and I loved that shaft. I will probably end up putting a Fubuki K-Series X-Stiff in this club for the rest of the season. The sound is another thing that is still throwing me off on the Nike Covert 2.0. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between a well-struck and a poorly struck shot. I give the overall feel a 6/10.

Distance 10/10:

If you are looking for a driver to deliver maximum distance with low spin, the Nike Covert Tour 2.0 is what you should be looking to put in your bag. The re-engineered cavity back has made great improvements in the area of distance by allowing the player to get maximum ball speed to deliver punishing drives. I had no problem crushing this driver when taking it to the range or playing a few rounds with it. I give the overall distance ranking a 10/10.VR_S_COVERT_2_TOUR_DRIVER

Adjustability/Workability 9/10

Nike has done it again and given anyone who picks it up the opportunity for full adjustability and dial it in for their needs. Either crank up the loft for that round that you want to launch everything high or dial it down when playing your favorite links course. Players can open or close the face but I believe most players should just leave it at neutral and work on their swing.

Workability of the Nike Tour 2.0 sees dramatic improvements with the cavity back redesign on providing better stability with higher ball speeds. The Nike Tour driver can be worked either way, left or right, by players who like to move the ball in any direction. I give the overall workability/adjustability rating a 9/10.

Overall Rating 35/40:

Nike should be proud on improvements they have made to the Nike Covert 2.0 driver line this year. They found ways to deliver a much improved driver to the marketplace. The Nike Covert 2.0 Tour model not only looks great but is also very LONG! I think some small improvements to the sound of the club as well as the stock shaft option will help this club go even higher up the rankings. Also, I am hoping for a good year from Tiger and Rory, which should help out the Swoosh team a ton. Overall I am having a great experience with the new Nike driver. Keep on cooking up winners in the Oven guys!

Nike Challenges Golfers to “Play in the Now”

BEAVERTON, Ore. (January 15, 2014) – Nike Golf is amplifying the story of innovation behind the new Nike VRS Covert 2.0 driver by challenging convention through its new “Play in the Now” campaign. With the first piece airing on January 25th, “Play in the Now” is a series of TV spots that takes a humorous but pointed jab at golfers who are afraid to try new technology and, as such, reject advancements in innovation. The spot will air on ESPN and CBS in the U.S., and also will air in Canada, United Kingdom, Japan and Korea.

With a clear inference that Nike Golf’s innovations represent today’s leading edge of golf equipment, “Play in the Now” takes a snapshot journey through the different eras of golf technology. It makes a stark distinction between the change-fearing golfers of yesteryear and what it takes to move the sport forward.

Accompanying the main 30-second spot are 15-second vignettes featuring a variety of crusty characters who, if they’d had it their way, would still have golfers hitting wooden balls with crooked sticks on the shores of Scotland.

More spots highlighting Nike Golf’s advancements in technology will be aired in the coming months to complement the campaign.

Nike VRS Covert 2.0

Bigger, faster and longer than last year’s industry game-changing VRS Covert drivers, the world’s first to feature conforming High Speed Cavity Back technology, the new VRS Covert 2.0 drivers deliver more forgiving distance, faster ball speed and simple, intuitive customization to meet the swing needs of every athlete. High-Speed Cavity Back technology redistributes weight to the heel and toe allowing for increased distance and more stability across the face of the driver.

“We re-engineered the VRS Covert 2.0 with enhancements to our High Speed Cavity Back technology that allow athletes to experience more forgiving distance than ever before,” says Nate Radcliffe, Nike Golf Director of Engineering. “The new VRS Covert 2.0 driver features a redesigned cavity with Fly-Brace technology that ties the sole to the crown. By stiffening the rear portion of the club, more energy is transferred to the face at impact. The end result is even greater ball speed and up to six yards of distance gain over last year’s model.”

Several Nike athletes, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Kevin Chappell and Nick Watney, have put the VRS Covert 2.0 driver into play.

The VRS Covert 2.0 drivers feature two additional proprietary technologies: A larger, re-engineered NexCOR face for increased ball speed and distance, and FlexLoft adjustability, which allows athletes to easily customize loft and face angle positions for 15 drivers in one.

The VRS Covert 2.0 Tour and VRS Covert 2.0 drivers will be available on Nike.com and select retailers on January 31, 2014.

New Nike Lunar Clayton Blends Craftsmanship and Comfort

– Handcrafted leather footwear, lightweight Lunarlon technology inspire Nike Golf’s new versatile shoe –Nike Clayton Golf Shoe

BEAVERTON, Ore. (December 10, 2013) — Nike Golf introduces the Nike Lunar Clayton, a shoe that celebrates the heritage and history of the sport of golf while providing athletes with superior comfort, supportive fit and an aesthetic appeal suitable for wear both on and off the course.

Nike Golf Footwear Product Line Manager Ryan Bucci was first inspired more than 5,000 miles from Nike’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., while window-shopping in Florence, Italy.

“Handmade, Italian leather shoes are the essence of premium footwear,” Bucci says. “We saw that there was an opening in the marketplace for a high-quality, handcrafted golf shoe that we could marry with Nike technology to make it lighter, more comfortable and more wearable.”

To achieve the ultimate combination of craftsmanship and comfort, the Nike Golf footweardesigners combined a handcrafted, waterproof leather upper with lightweight Nike Lunarlon technology in the outsole for maximum responsive cushioning. A leather welt, often utilized in traditional methods of making shoes, joins the upper to the outsole while protecting from the elements.

“In the past, wearing a high-end leather golf shoe meant you had to take the time to break it in. Those shoes can be rigid and uncomfortable,” Bucci says. “The Nike Lunar Clayton is a handcrafted leather shoe that is built to last but ready to wear. We obsessed the details, from the leather upper to the contrast stitching to stability and fit.”

A new Internal Dynamic Fit System provides a secure fit and stability in the midfoot through a lacing system that Nike Golf designers moved to the inside of the upper. A molded rubber outsole (Integrated Traction) makes the Nike Lunar Clayton a versatile, wearable shoe both on and off the golf course.

Additional design features include a Nike-crafted Swoosh on the upper, premium sock liner, contrast stitch details and two sets of laces with each pair of shoes.

Unique Core Design, Unprecedented Distance and Stability: Nike’s New Speedlock RZN Core Technology

2014-Nike-RZN

– Nike Golf’s new interlocking RZN core design delivers more energy at impact for faster ball speed, longer distance and a more stable ball flight –

BEAVERTON, Ore. (November 25, 2013) – For the second time in three years, Nike Golf is transforming golf ball technology with another industry-first. Building on the success of the game-changing 20XI ball and RZN core technology, Nike Golf is unveiling its innovative Speedlock RZN core technology and adding four golf balls to the new RZN franchise – RZN Platinum, RZN Black, RZN Red and RZN White — designed to deliver more distance, better feeland a more consistent, stable ball flight than ever before.

Nike’s proprietary Speedlock RZN core technology features an interlocking core design – the core’s surface is similar to that of a waffle iron – that interconnects with the compression layer to form a tighter bond that helps promote better energy transfer through the layers at impact.  Similar to how snow tires utilize aggressive treads to bond with a road surface, the Speedlock core’s interlocking geometry helps eliminate the slipping that normally occurs between a traditional, smooth-surface core and the outer layer. When a core slides or slips on impact, the ball loses energy and as a result, speed and distance. Speedlock Technology helps to harness more energy between layers for faster ball speed, longer distance and more stability into the wind.

“We knew we hadn’t pulled 100-percent of the energy that we could out of the existing RZN core,” says Rock Ishiii, Senior Director, Golf Product Development. “Working in partnership with DuPont we were able to develop a softer and faster RZN material and created the interlocking core design to reduce energy loss at impact. That means more distance, especially with fairway woods, irons and wedges, and softer feel and sound around the greens.”

“The lightweight RZN material allows us to add weight to the perimeter of the golf ball which gives the new RZN family an extremely high Moment of Inertia (MOI) in a golf ball,” Ishii adds. “This provides incredible ball flight stability in all wind conditions.”

When the exploration into new technology began a little over a year ago, Nike Golf designers looked to the past to find inspiration for the future. They landed on the original Haskell ball, which emerged in the early 1900’s as the first rubber core golf ball, consisting of elastic thread wound around a rubber core under extreme tension. The Haskell design helped make historically slower materials faster – and Nike Golf engineers began to explore what that could mean for a lighter, more modern RZN material in the core.

“Tightly-wrapped material pulls more energy through the layers, and converts that energy into additional ball speed,” Ishii says. “One additional mile-per-hour produces an average of five yards in additional distance.”

Several Nike Golf athletes, including Rory McIlroy and Paul Casey, have put the new ball into play in 2013.

“I want something that sounds fast off the club head, and something that sounds soft around the green,” Casey says. “This new ball with Speedlock Technology does that.”

“I’m finding that especially around the greens there is a big difference,” adds McIlroy. “The ball feels and sounds a lot softer. And even from inside 50 yards, it felt like the ball was getting a little more grip, a little more spin. My iron shots were great, and wedge shots were great, too.”

A new spin-optimizedcoating on the outer surface of the ball helps grip the grooves for better control on wedge and iron shots. The coating, in addition to a softer cover and softer compression in the core, also helps provide improved sound and feel, especially on off-center shots.

The Nike RZN franchise will launch four versions of the new ball:

·      RZN Platinum: Tour Performance control and moderate spin

·      RZN Black: Tour Performance distance and less spin

·      RZN Red: Distance Performance, longer carry

·      RZN White: Distance Performance, softer feel, for swing speeds 95-100 mph
