BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 21, 2013) – Dave Stockton, one of the hottest short-game instructors in the sport of golf, has signed with Nike Golf to assist in product development and design, specifically in the realm of putters.

Stockton, who currently resides in Redlands, Calif., brings his elite knowledge and signature status as one of the legendary putting gurus in the golf industry to his new role with the brand.

Stockton has coached some of the sport’s top athletes, including Nike Golf’s very own Rory McIlroy and Suzann Pettersen.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of what I believe is one of the most innovative brands in sports,” said Stockton.  “I look forward to sharing my putter insights with Nike engineers so they can continue to create amazing product that help golfers putt better.”

Stockton currently runs a golf instruction program, Stockton Golf, with his two sons, Ron and Dave, Jr. His book, “Unconscious Putting,” quickly became a best-seller after its release in 2011.

The University of Southern California graduate made his professional golf debut in 1964, capturing 11 PGA Tour titles over the course of his career –including two PGA Championships — and 14 Champions Tour victories. Stockton also won three Ryder Cup matches with the U.S. team in 1971, 1977 and 1991.

The visually stunning Nike VR_S Covert Driver driver stands out as the most innovative club Nike Golf has ever produced. The Nike VR_S Covert Driver features three proprietary technology platforms — High Speed Cavity Back, FlexLoft adjustability and NexCOR face — combine to create unprecedented distance, control and forgiveness.

“With the Nike VR_S Covert Driver we have created a game-changing piece of technology that has already begun a growing industry buzz,” said Rob Arluna, Nike Golf’s Global Golf Club Business Director. “It is visually exciting, it feels and sounds amazing and, most importantly, it creates powerful results with a high degree of control. Golfers and our Nike Golf Tour athletes are going to have a lot of fun with the Nike VR_S Covert Driver.”

The High Speed Cavity Back in the Nike VR_S Covert Driver is a technology used in irons that Nike Golf now brings to drivers, fairways and hybrids for the first time. This technology leads to more stability at impact, which delivers more energy to the ball, resulting in more distance and control. The Cavity Back of the Nike Covert Driver is only visible from the sole view but is covered and hidden underneath by the crown to be more visually and pleasing at address – hence the name VR_S Covert. By incorporating this new hidden geometry into the driver, Nike Golf engineers have been able to move the weight of the club to the heel and toe of the golf club, raising Moment of Inertia (MOI) to increase forgiveness and add even more distance to off-center shots.

Nike Golf’s FlexLoft is a simple pull, turn, and push/tighten mechanism that allows for an intuitive adjustment system. The patented Dual Axis adjustment allows golfers to choose their loft and face angle independently of each other by decoupling loft from face angle. This leads to better ball flight for more distance as well as enhanced workability. This easy to use system gives the golfers 15 different options to suit their game and course conditions.

The NexCOR face technology featured in the VR_S Covert line is designed to deliver faster ball speed and longer shots from a wider area of the face. NexCOR creates more speed at impact by employing a variable face thickness that moves the sweet spot higher from the heel of the club to the center high, where most golfers are likely to make impact.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – August 8, 2013 – Srixon is pleased to announce the latest addition to its Z-STAR series golf balls favored by world tour professionals, as well as other srixon-z-star-newcompetitive golfers. The new 2013 Z-STAR series is the most technically advanced tour performance golf ball Srixon has ever developed. The new Z-STAR and Z-STAR XV provide two distinct tour offerings that have been re-designed, re-calculated and re-formulated to produce the best balance of tour performance across all clubs in the bag.

In response to the rigorous demands of tour pros and competitive golfers around the world, the new Srixon Z-STAR series delivers greater advances in spin control and softness, while improving the flight characteristics that have won both balls high acclaim. The surface of the new Z-STAR ball series employs Srixon’s newly developed Spin Skin™, which enables players to hit short approach shots with plenty of backspin, while experiencing a softer feeling as the clubface grips the ball. Srixon’s new Spin Skin, which is two times softer than any previous Srixon coating, helps create a 20% increase in frictional force between the ball and clubface, which leads to greatly enhanced spin performance. Srixon’s Spin Skin enables tour professionals and top players to put just the right amount of backspin on their approach shots.

The Z-STAR ball features a brand new Energy Gradient Growth™ (EGG™) large-diameter core with newly developed additives for more contrast between outer hardness and inner softness, resulting in more lift, less spin and longer flight distances. The new Z-STAR XV features a new Neo EGG™ large-diameter, two-layer core with increased contrast between outer hardness and inner softness, which delivers more lift and less spin for a quicker launch and greater overall flight distances.

The Z-STAR series, with its newly developed 344 Speed Dimple™ design, helps reduce air resistance for improved flight performance, resulting in a strong, long-carrying trajectory that canSpin Skin conquer even strong headwinds to deliver greater flight distances. Srixon’s new 344 Speed Dimple design increased the ratio of dimples to surface area of the golf ball by more than 4%, making it possible to play more aggressive golf under all conditions.

“We’re extremely excited about the new Z-STAR series,” said Chris Beck, Brand Manager for Srixon. “We’ve had an astonishing run on tour this year with the new Z-STAR balls, which have already garnered more than 40 worldwide wins, three majors and even two rounds of 59.”

The Z-STAR and the Z-STAR XV will carry a MAP price of $44.99, and are both available in Pure White or Tour Yellow.

Mizuno JPX EZ Driver

First Look: Mizuno JPX-EZ Driver, Fairway Woods, Hybrids and Forged Irons

Mizuno JPX EZ Driver

Here is a first look at the newest edition to the Mizuno JPX line of clubs with the new EZ models. They are branding these as “Risk-Reward Your Odds Just Improved.” Looks to be an adjustable driver with a “Quick Switch” system with a couple different options. The driver appears to come in different lofts that can be adjusted with what looks to be a adjustable weighting system as well. Mizuno also looks to have added the fairway woods and hybrids to their new line of JPX-EZ woods.

Another big thing it looks like they will be releasing a new set of JPX-EZ grain flow forged irons. I can see a lot of players that are seeking a forgiving iron will be looking towards this new JPX-EZ line if they were currently thinking about buying the JPX-825’s.

On top of which looks to be an exciting year for Mizuno I really like the orange and black colorways of the woods and orange hits on the irons. I like how Mizuno is sticking with the black coloring instead of getting all crazy like some other companies. It looks like these will be another winner by Mizuno. Knowing that the new MP line of MP-4 and MP-54 are suppose to be coming out in September I would guess these would be around the same time or a little later.

Nike Athlete Tiger Woods dominates the field to capture his 79th PGA Tour victory

The top-ranked player in the world claims his eighth WGC Bridgestone Invitational win with the VR_S Covert Driver

BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 5, 2013) – Nike Athlete Tiger Woods posted a career-tying best score of 61 in the second round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational to build up a 7-stroke lead heading into the weekend — and he never looked back. Woods maintained his impressive lead at Firestone Country Club to clinch his 18th World Golf Championship title and his first win with the VR_S Covert Tour driver since putting it into play at The Open Championship just two weeks ago.

The victory is Woods’ eighth at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, matching the PGA Tour-record he also holds at Bay Hill for most wins in the same tournament.

Woods took full advantage of his 14-club Nike arsenal en route to the 79th PGA Tour win of his career and fifth of the season. He averaged more than 315 yards off the tee with his VR_S Covert Tour driver and blasted a 379-yard drive on the par-5 16th hole in the second round, the second-longest drive of the tournament.

Woods’ VR_S Covert Tour prototype driver features innovative cavity back technology that delivers the stability the top-ranked player in the world wants while moving weight to the perimeter to increase forgiveness and add even more distance to off-center shots.

“Something I’m very proud of is how many tournaments I’ve been able to win consistently, year in and year out, and how many World Golf Championships I’ve been able to win,” Woods said. “I played well today and played conservatively but also played very aggressive to my spots. I feel like my game is pretty consistent, and the weeks I’ve putted well I’ve been able to win,” Woods said.

Woods led the field with 19 birdies and was fifth in putts per greens in regulation with his Nike Method 001 putter.

Woods also wore apparel from the Nike TW Collection as well as the iconic Nike TW ’14 shoe, featuring Nike Free-Inspired technology.

Woods now turns his attention to the final major of the year, the PGA Championship, at Oak Hill, which begins this week in Rochester, NY.
